Cepia (aka Minneapolis' Huntley Miller) has done a good job of getting his name around lately, having followed up the acclaimed Dowry EP with a batch of remixes for the likes of Fog, Dosh, and Mr. Projectile, in addition to works for labels like Neo Ouija and Sublight. His first release for the Ghostly Digital (GIDG) catalog, Pearl, finds him at the top of his game with five unique manifestations of the multi-faceted Cepia sound. From the majestic ambience of "Malcesine" to the ratcheting melodic clusters of "As" and the crunching polyrhythms of the title track, Pearl is the sound of a melancholy future – its calculated intertwining of prenatal softnesses and precise, mechanical shell make for a concise, arresting sonic experience.
